Procedures for crossing the border


Visa regime

  • Nationals of the State of Qatar should obtain a visa prior to entry of the Republic of Albania from its embassy in Doha.
  • The Albanian government has been encouraging citizens of some countries to spend their summer vacations in Albania, and not to compel them to obtain visas to enter the country during the summer tourism season which extends between (May 25-September 25) each year. These facilities have been awarded to the citizens of the State of Qatar for this year, for the period from 31st of May 2017 to 15th of November 2017 with the possibility of staying for 90 days during this period.

Cases when you can  enter Albania without a visa

  • Qatari nationals can enter Albania if they have multiple valid Schengen visa, provided that they entered  an EU country before entering Albania.
  • Qatari nationals can enter Albania if they have a valid residence permit or multiple and valid entry visa  for each of the United Kingdom or the United States on condition that they visit these countries before visiting Albania.

Customs

  • You carry with you to Albania all personal belongings, whether new or old, without incurring any customs duties, and you are allowed to carry a reasonable amount of tobacco and perfume for personal use. As for prohibited items, these include firearms, ammunition, drugs, and hazardous materials. You must respect public order and must obtain the necessary permits for the passage of valuables, including precious metals, antiques and books.

Air ports

  • The only international airport in Albania is (Tirana airport Rinas- Mother Teresa) and is located about 17 km from Tirana city center. The State seeks to establish and operate other airports, Kukës airport in the northeast of the country, near the border with the Republic of Kosovo, has recently been built not yet  operated. The state is also considering  to establish another airport in the south of the country near the city of Saranda to serve the tourism sector, due to increasing demand by the organizers and agencies of foreign and domestic travel and individuals to visit the magnificent archaeological and historical areas of the beaches in the south of the country.

Seaports

Visitors can access to Albania using ferries and ships carrying passengers from Italian ports (Bari / Brindisi / Ancona) to the Albanian port overlooking the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic, as follows:

  • Port of Durrës
  • The port of Vlora
  • The port of Saranda
  • Port of Shëngjin

Land border crossings

You can enter Albania via land crossing points linking it with neighboring countries as follows:

Kosovo

  • The border crossing "Qafë Morinë" near the Albanian town of Kukës.
  • The border crossing "Qafë Prush" near the Albanian city of Bajram Curri.


Greece

  • The border crossing "Kapshticë" near the Albanian city of Korca.
  • The border crossing "Kakavia" near the town of Gjirokastra in Albania.
  • The border crossing "Qafë Botë" near the Albanian town of Konispol.
  • The border crossing "Tre Urat" near the Albanian city of Përmet.

Montenegro

  • The border crossing "Han i Hotit" near the Albanian city of Shkodra.
  • The border crossing "Muriqan / Sukobin", near the Albanian city of Shkodra.
  • The border crossing "Vermoshi", near the town of Malësi e madhe in Albania.


Macedonia

  • The border crossing "Qafë Thanë", near the city of Pogradec.
  • The border crossing "Tushemisht", on the southeastern border of Ohrid Lake .
  • The border crossing "Bllatë", near the city of Peshkopi, and Bulqiza and Burrel in northeastern Albania.
  • The border crossing "Goricë", on the northern shores of Prespa Lake .
